A statement from the Board of Selectmen:

While the Board of Selectmen acknowledges that the request for a special appropriation failed at the public Town Meeting on February 1, 2023, the Board has voted to move forward to settle the Federal employment litigation matter. This decision is not an admission of wrongdoing but is a responsible business decision made in partnership with our Insurer to mitigate possible further financial risk to the town.

The Chairman of the Board of Selectmen will work with the Board of Finance to implement alternative methods of funding this settlement, including the possibility of making payments across multiple fiscal years.
